Piktochart
Infographics are an up-and-coming media that can be used in a variety of ways in a classroom. You might be wondering what an infographic is. Simply put an infographic is a chart or diagram used to represent information or data. That may sound fairly boring, but in actuality it is not. Infographics are a way to engage your students in a visual way in order to help them understand a concept.

This is an infographic I created. It is a timeline of all the major conflicts the United States has been involved in throughout its history. It took me around half an hour to make.
I created this ingrographic using a website called piktochart.
This is FREE website that allows you to create infographics using their FREE templates. They have a variety of formats including presentation and banner style. They also have a wonderful gallery of infographics that other users have created and shared. As a teacher, we do not have time to create everything from scratch, so if you're in a pinch for time you could search for a relevant infographic in the gallery. For a fee, you can upgrade your account and get access to more templates. I have not done this yet, but I am sure it would be a worthwhile investment if infographics fit your teaching style and classroom.
Infographics are not limited to teacher creation. They could be used as a project for students as well. Instead of writing a traditional book report or creating a diorama, you could encourage your students to create an infographic on their topic. This builds upon the CCSS for technology as well as provides a new medium for students to explore.
Lastly, infographics can be printed out and displayed in the classroom as anchor charts or other visuals. We all need to have a little color in our classrooms and infographics are an excellent way to do so.
